Since I still needed to make some earrings for the day, it was on to the next piece. Today’s challenge was to repair a piece of broken jewelry.    I don’t have a lot of broken jewelry, but there are a few pieces from my early days of beading that could use a little attention.    Now that I have switched to C-lon and Fireline, I have far fewer issues with breakage, not that I had that many to begin with, but I think both of those materials are stronger than what I was using in the past.

The challenge for day 10 was to use a found object in a jewelry design.   Well, between teaching class and an impromptu trip to Cincinnati, that didn’t happen.   I did bead two cabochons though.    And I did discover that the cool little piece of coral that made it into the last few photos has a horizontal hole right through the top in just the perfect place.    I am very excited to use it in something, but I want it to be just the right thing.   I’ll keep you posted on that front.    Here’s a cute kitten photo to distract you.

Day 11 went a bit better.   The challenge was to make a beaded gift.    As you might have guessed I went with earrings.    I made several pairs, two are gifts and the rest will be for sale, except the pair I wore yesterday. (:

One of these things is not like the other… I am not quite sure how these ended up being made while I was working with the sparkly beads.   I was going to give these to my mom, but they are a bit big for her tastes.   The turquoise donut is about an inch and a quarter across. Just a quick heads up to let you know that I am teaching 3 more classes this month aside from the spring workshop.    This Thursday the 15th at 1pm there will be a mystery class at Bead Angels. I had a request to teach a class that day, but a specific class was not selected.  I will bring an assortment of instructions and the class will be selected by the student.

Saturday the 17th at 10:30 I will be teaching my Wedgy Widget Earrings at Bead Angels.  These are less complicated than they look.   They work up quickly and are a suitable project for an advanced beginner or an intermediate beader.    Bring 3 colors of Delicas, a few 11’s, ear wires, 2 8mm crystals, 2 6mm crystals and 2 4mm crystals, C-Lon or Fireline.

I will also be teaching my Dress Up You Donut class on Thursday the 29th at 1pm.   Apologies for the lack of picture, my sample is at the store, and I didn’t snap a photo before I dropped it off.    This class teaches tubular herringbone and a fast and easy beaded bail to attach the donut to the necklace.   The pendant is removable.   The necklace base is a simple but elegant cord which works well for hanging all sorts of pendants.    This class is suitable for beginners to intermediate bead weavers.  Bring 2 tubes of size 8 seed beads, size 11 seed beads, a donut, a button (preferably with a shank,) C-lon or Fireline, size 10 long needle.

The challenge for day 8 was to have a date with a bead friend.    I accomplished this by teaching a class and doing a little side tutorial with a couple of lovely ladies from the Bead Society.   I also made some “earrings.”   I say “earrings” because technically they aren’t yet…   I have run out of sterling silver ear wires.  Doh!    More have been ordered.   Note to self: if you plan to spend a month making earrings, make sure you have enough ear wires to get through the month!  Since I spent the early afternoon teaching, and the late afternoon at the Art Museum, I decided to go with some quickie earrings made while helping Stephen play L.A. Noire on the X-box. I love those metallic-y etched polka-dot beads.   I should get some more of those…I guess I still had Tuesday’s color palette in mind while making these.I love those big green lentils.   They have a spectacular AB coating on the other side, but I love the glow that the uncoated side gets.

The challenge for day 9 was to embellish something with beads.  This one stumped me for a bit, but then I remembered my stash of felt balls and the fancy sequins I picked up at the Bead and Button show last year.

Sorry about the cropped photo.  I forgot about my size limitations when I took this one.    I am really pleased with how these turned out.    I suppose I should have made them in springier colors, but these were the colors that were speaking to me that day.   Perhaps I will have to make some brighter ones later.

Now is the time to sign up for the Indiana Bead Society’s Spring Workshop.   The workshop is on March 31st.   I am teaching two classes.   The morning class is my Bars and Stripes Bracelet.This is a good beginner to intermediate project.   There will be several color choices available.   If you let me know before Friday what color you might like, I am willing to customize the kits to a certain extent.

Hi!   I’m still busy here making earrings and playing along with the 30 day bead challenge.    Things just got a bit crazy for a few days.    We had a house guest for 3 days, and then made an impromptu trip to Cincinnati for the afternoon over the weekend.    I also taught two classes last week.

As a quick reminder, the challenge of the day was to create  a color palette. You have already seen the sneak peak of my color palette.   I went a bit crazy and made 5 pairs of earrings.  I like them all.  Here’s pair number 1. I like how these kind of look like mermaids or ladies in party dresses.  Pair number 2 is a bit simpler. Pair number 3.Pair number 4.I love these.   They created a bit of a problem in figuring out how to hang them, but I think they will work.   I may have to test drive them a few times before I make more to sell.   What you can’t see from the picture is that there is a stem of aqua seed beads that the posts are attached to.   After taking this picture I had to go out to dinner, so the photo for the last pair of earrings is a bit crappier.  Sorry about that.    Here’s the last pair. I wore these with my new shirt on Wednesday.    They don’t hang quite the way I was hoping they would, but they are still cute.

The challenge for Day 7 was to use a different metal in you jewelry.    I use lots of different metals in my jewelry, about the only ones I don’t use are gold and platinum, mostly because they are prohibitively expensive.    After a bit of thought, I decided to stretch things a bit and go with base metal.   I generally avoid it, since some people have issues with it, but for this project it didn’t really matter.    Last spring I bought some cool post earrings with mesh screens. I haven’t had much time to play with them, so I figured now was the time.    I used glass pearls, size 11 seed beads and some craft wire to make these cute little flowery earrings.    I am quite pleased with how they turned out.   I will definitely have to experiment more with these little findings.

The challenge for Tuesday was to incorporate chain into a jewelry design.   This is a bit trickier with earrings than other things.    I started with a warm up pair of earrings… I have a bunch of these trumpet flower filigree pieces.  I have tried to use them in multiple ways, but they always end up hanging kind of funny. I don’t love these, but they aren’t horrible either. I do love the teal pearls.  You will notice that there is no chain involved here.  I had a thought, but it didn’t work.   So, it was on to pair two. The bone beads have been in my stash for a long time.   They have made an appearance in many projects over the years.   I only have a few left now.   The chain is copper from Michaels most likely. The copper flower bead caps came from JoAnns.    I like the tassel-y look of these.  They have a nice amount of swing to them.

And now onto the sneak peek.   The challenge for day 6 was to create a color palette.   Anyone who knows me knows I go for the bolds and the brights.   I thought I would challenge myself a bit.  I was leaning towards corals, turquoises and pearls, but then I ran a little errand and stumbled upon a snazzy shirt I had to have and voila, a fun springy color palette.
