Beadin Path & Lorelei Eurto Bead Challenge

By | September 21, 2012

A few weeks back I got an e-mail in my inbox from the Beadin Path people.   These e-mails are hard enough to resist on a good day, but when they were selling super snazzy kits for a bead challenge I couldn’t resist.    Here’s what came in the kit.

I am always a sucker for the vintage lucite stuff.   The moonglow buttons are just stunning.   I always love turquoise and red/coral together.  The black is a bit of a challenge for me, but I figured I could make it work.

Between life, teaching and an unexpected trip out of town, I didn’t have as much time as I was hoping I would.   Here’s what I came up with.   They still need a few tweaks, but I am liking where they are going.

Project number 1:

Since I was busy with the Superduos this week, I decided to make some little flower shaped pieces.   The color was perfect and it helped lighten up the black.  Since the center hole on the flowers was going to provide a stringing challenge, I wired them onto some vintage filigree bits I bought from Beadin Path a while back. I like the mixed metal look, but I think I need to add a little more antique silver to the front.   I also need to put a little ultrasuede on the back of the filigree because it’s kind of scratchy.

Project number 2:

I loved the lucite chain, but I couldn’t make it fit into the necklace, so I decided to make a bracelet.   The day after I got the kit, it dawned on me to make cute retro flowers with the buttons and the petal shaped beads.   A little E-6000  and I had two great flower components to play with.     I would like to add a bit more to this bracelet.  I have some great olive green rubber rings that would look fun with this combo, but I couldn’t figure out how to work them in.   I may yet come up with an idea…

Project 3:

When I added the flower to the bracelet, the clasp made the piece too long, so I had to remove a few links.   One of them already had a dangle on it, so I added another to the naked link.   I used the rubber rings to cover up the slit in the lucite.  I really like how these look.   I will definitely be making some more earrings in this style.

I realize that I didn’t use any of the cute little red barrels.   I had plans, but no time.  Look for them to make an appearance sometime soon.   I still have another retro flower and another button to play with.   Now I just need more hours in my day.

Definitely go check out the projects of the other participants.  Here are the links.
