Where did August go?
I was only gone for 8 days, but it feels like the whole month got sucked up into some sort of time vortex. Bead camp was awesome as usual. It was even more fun since my mom was able to come. She joined us for the button class then veered off to the fabric dyeing class for the rest of the week. Diane Fitzgerald always knows how to make class fun. I wasn’t sure how we were going to do 3 days worth of button projects, but once we got going, I could have made button jewelry for the rest of the week and still not run out of ideas. Apparently I didn’t take any photos of my own button jewelry. I’ll have to remedy that soon. Unfortunately it’s overcast and rainy here today, not good for pictures.
The week long class was devoted to brick stitch. Not my favorite stitch, but a very useful one. I managed to knock out two pairs of earrings, a great necklace and a few bits and bobs to experiment with. Here’s a sampling of what I made. The heart was an after-hours project that we did one evening. It’s that two part epoxy clay and boatloads of crystals. It was super easy and looks great when finished. Definitely a good Bead Society project for next year.

I absolutely love how it turned out. I wasn’t going to finish it while I was there because I didn’t think I had all the supplies I needed, but Diane insisted. I’m glad she did or I never would have added the rings on the sides, and I think they add a lot to the finished piece. I think this look has a lot of potential for making lots of different projects.
After I returned from bead camp, I hit the ground running. We spent a day at the State Fair, the next day at the first Colts pre-season game, then we had houseguests and Gen Con for the rest of the week. I got to work as crew for Stephen and Dave while they filmed interviews. I honestly didn’t think boom operator would ever be on my resume, but now I can add it.
I’ll post a few of my photos from GenCon soon.
