Today has been spent staring at the computer trying to decipher bead numbers and colors. I have placed 4 different orders in hopes of having all of the right stuff to assemble kits next week. I like assembling kits, but ordering all the bits is tedious. And it’s so hard to judge color through screens and catalog pages. I just cross my fingers and hope they all go together when they arrive.
The first round of parts arrived yesterday. Sadly most of those sparkly Swarovskis are not for me…
In the mean time, I have been a beaded bead making fool. 18 beaded beads in 3 days is pretty good all things considered. I am absolutely loving these little guys. I threw a few extra superduos on one of my bead orders for experimental purposes. Here’s the top down version of the first set of beads made.

After yesterdays triangles, I did manage to figure out triangle stitch in rows rather than in medallions. I even managed to add a clasp instead of letting it languish half finished! Here’s the close up, pre-clasp.

I have been making lots of hearts lately. I love the Swarovski crystal puffy heart. I have made tons of those. And every time, I still need to find my instructions. Oy. But I have found a new heart to make. Here’s the most recent bunch. 
These are triangle weave. I found a free tutorial here. This tutorial is just for the flat version. I figured out how to make it dimensional on my own. It just occurred to me that I should make these with a different color on the back so that they could be reversible. Why didn’t I think of that three days ago? I haven’t done a ton of triangle weave. I did make Laura Shea’s rainbow heart bracelet at Bead and Button a few years ago.

Here are the tubes that I beaded for the bead swap. Please excuse the slightly janky pictures. Each participant requested their own colors. It was fun to work with some combos that I wouldn’t normally choose. 
I started out simple with straight peyote stitch. I really like the zig zag pattern on this one. 
More zig zags, using 11’s instead of delicas. i like the contrast on this one. 
Still peyote stitch, this time with stripes. The bit of blue underneath is the secret message peeking through. I don’t think it was that bright in real life. 
Next up was netting. I really like how this one turned out. 
I moved on to right angle weave with some different embellishments. This sort of reminds me of the Tardis decorated for Christmas…

I coated the inside of the tube with glitter. I embellished some of the openings with drops and left the others clear so that the glitter peeked through. I had intended to do more of these, but the glittered tubes were the ones the cat kept stealing. I guess the glue smelled good.

Just for fun, in a few of the tubes I put a sprinkling of seed beads so that the tube made a small rattling noise. All in all it was a fun project. The only not fun part was waiting to the last minute to get them all done. No procrastination for me this year. So far I have 6 of my 24 pieces done for the new project. If I do one a week, I can have them done in no time.
Last year I had the chance to participate in a bead swap with a bunch of beaders from England and the U.S.. The challenge was organized by Diane Fitzgerald and Stephney Hornblow. The challenge was to bead 10 tiny tubes, hide a message inside and send them off. In exchange, you would receive 10 beaded tubes. Little did I know that this challenge would involve much hair pulling and crawling around on my hands and knees. Someone, who shall remain nameless, thought that the tubes were awesomely fun and kept stealing them. I had even very carefully placed them in a location that I thought was safe. Ha. It’s a good thing she’s cute… 
I thought I might miss the deadline, but I managed to find all but one of the missing tubes. Thankfully, the 11th tube was supposed to be for me, so that one could wait. It was eventually found and I managed to make my own tube after all the other tubes had arrived. It was probably a good thing, because I was able to make something to help balance out the finished piece.

I thought I would post a few more of the UFO’s that I finished and a few of the other beady things I worked on in January.
First up is a tumbled glass ring bracelet. It’s my knock off of a Glass Garden kit that was stunning but way too expensive for my budget. The rings are tumbled slices of wine bottle necks. The rest is ladder stitch and fringing with an improvised toggle. I love the colors on this one. It turned out really well.
Next up was the cursed Laura McCabe Gear Head Necklace. I started this little bugger in May of last year. I was zipping right along, when I ran out of pearls. Believe me this is a very difficult size and color to match. It was impossible to complete construction on this without the pearls. I managed to find something passable at the Bead and Button show, but I was so peeved at the necklace, it took me until January to finish it. 
Here’s the clasp on the necklace. Very cool, but a little fiddly to assemble. I really like how it turned out. And surprisingly, those little spiky pods aren’t too pokey. I was a bit concerned after my last Laura McCabe project which is totally unwearable due to excessive pokey-ness.

These are parts for another bead swap I am participating in. I have to make 24 geometric flat bead shapes and send them off. I will then receive 23 pieces in return and have to make something with them. Always a challenge, but always fun. I won’t share too many of these, but I will take pictures as I go and reveal them once the project is finished.

I am thrilled to inform you that I will be teaching at Bead Fest in Philadelphia in August. I have three classes scheduled. One full day and two half day classes. Day one is a doozy. I have a full day and a half day class scheduled. 
The Celeste Necklace is a full day class. Students will learn two different components, a speedy bezeling technique, a beaded bead for the closure and the daisy chain stitch. It’s a great class for intermediate to advanced beaders. The components work up quickly and the assembly is fairly simple. This class is August 24 from 8:30-4. I am assuming that there is a break in there for lunch. 
In the evening of the 24th, I will be teaching my Linking Rings Bracelet. This class goes from 5:30-8:30. Students will learn to make rings with both flat and tubular herringbone. Flat peyote stitch will be used for the toggle bar. This class is good for the intermediate beader or the advanced beginner.
